        • ​The Mission of the Academic Foundations Mathematics Department is to provide a learning environment that addresses the needs of the diverse student population. Our goal is to assist the students in completing the developmental math curriculum and gain the necessary tools to advance to and be successful in college-level mathematics courses.
        • MAT 071 Basic Mathematics (3 CR)
          This course reviews basic computational skills and problem-solving using these skills. Topics include whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, percents, ratio and proportion, measurement, and geometry. Placement is determined by the College Placement Test.
        • MAT 070 Basic Algebra Workshop (1 CR)
          This workshop is required for all students taking MAT 073, Basic Algebra I. The workshop emphasizes problem solving.
        • MAT 073 Basic Algebra (3 CR)
          Topics in this elementary algebra course include signed numbers, linear equations, polynomials, factoring, algebraic fractions, quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, and the coordinate system. Placement is determined by the College Placement Test.
        • MAT-073/100 ALP (6 Credits)
          This is an accelerated path for students to enroll in both Basic Algebra and College Algebra in the same semester. This class meets 2 times per week. There is a mandatory SI session required for this class which meets weekly for 1 hour following the MAT-100 ALP class. ​

      Basic Math and Basic Algebra students can develop their math and study skills by participating in a variety of learning activities offered by the Supplemental Program. The Academic Foundations Math Center is equipped with computers, iPads, and other technologies to assist students in building their math and study skills. In addition, it is staffed with trained Supplemental Instruction Leaders who provide group study and individual Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions.
