      Our professional development courses are designed to prepare students for the types of future jobs that await them by both addressing market needs and arming students with educations that provide them flexibility in a workforce that is constantly changing.


      Microsoft Excel Level I

      Excel can help you organize, calculate, analyze, revise, update, and present your data in ways that will help the decision-makers in your organization steer you in the right direction. It will also make these tasks much easier for you to accomplish and in much less time. This course aims to provide you with a foundation for Excel knowledge and skills, which you can eventually build upon to become an expert in data manipulation. This course is intended for students who wish to gain a foundational understanding of Microsoft Office Excel necessary to create and work with electronic spreadsheets.

      Upon completing this course, you will be able to create and develop Excel worksheets and workbooks to work with and analyze the data that is critical to your organization's success.

      This class will be held on campus with a limited number of seats available. The college follows all of the CDC’s measures to keep students and faculty safe while taking classes at our institution. This includes wearing a face covering, social distancing, limited classroom capacity, temperature check upon entry, and an air purification system to eliminate germs and viruses.

      Prerequisites:
      To ensure success, students will need to be familiar with using personal computers and should have experience using a keyboard and mouse. Students should also be comfortable working in the Windows environment.

      Microsoft Word Level I

      These days, most people take electronic word-processing for granted. While we may still write out our grocery lists with pen and paper, we expect to use a computer to create the majority of our documents. It is impossible to avoid word-processing software in many areas of the business world. Managers, lawyers, clerks, reporters, and editors rely on this software to do their jobs. Microsoft Word is designed to help you move smoothly through the task of creating professional-looking documents. Its rich features and powerful tools can make your work easy, and even fun. In this course, you will learn how to use Word to create and edit simple documents; format documents; add tables and lists; add design elements and layout options; and proof documents. This course is intended for students who want to learn basic Word skills, such as creating, editing, and formatting documents; inserting simple tables and creating lists; and employing a variety of techniques for improving the appearance and accuracy of document content.

      This class will be held on campus with a limited number of seats available.       Microsoft Excel Level II

      Whether you need to crunch numbers for sales, inventory, information technology, human resources, or other organizational purposes and departments, the ability to get the correct information to the right people at the right time can create a powerful competitive advantage. After all, the world runs on data more than ever before, and that's a trend not likely to change or even slow down any time soon. But with so much data available and being created on a nearly constant basis, the ability to make sense of that data becomes more critical and challenging with every passing day. You already know how to get Excel to perform simple calculations and how to modify your workbooks and worksheets to make them easier to read, interpret, and present to others. But, Excel is capable of doing so much more. To gain a truly competitive edge, you need to be able to extract actionable organizational intelligence from your raw data. In other words, when you have questions about your data, you need to know how to get Excel to provide the answers for you. This course builds upon the foundational knowledge presented in the Part 1 course. It will help start you down the road to creating advanced workbooks and worksheets that can help deepen your understanding of organizational intelligence.

These features enable you to create complex and professional documents with a consistent look and feel. They also enable you to automate tedious tasks such as preparing a letter to send to your organization's customers. Creating professional-looking documents can help you give your organization a competitive edge. Implementing time-saving features such as document templates and automated mailings helps your organization reduce expenses. Mastering these techniques will make you a valued employee in your organization.       Live Webinar: Excel Tips & Tricks

      In this workshop, students will learn some essential Excel functions that can be useful as you work with the program daily. Some of the topics that will be covered include making AutoCorrect work for you by changing text as you type, working with multiple sheets or workbooks, easily replacing or adding text to multiple cells, protecting your workbook from unwanted access or accidental modification, and much more. The workshop is designed for users at any skill level, but a basic understanding of Excel is recommended for all attendees.

      QuickBooks Desktop Part I

      Become a QuickBooks Certified User with Hudson County Community College! This two-part national certification program benefits bookkeepers, accountants, and financial professionals by giving those with no prior QuickBooks experience a deeper understanding of this industry standard software. Prior knowledge of accounting principles required.

      In Part I, students explore the basics of QuickBooks including creating companies, working with vendors and customers, banking, and customization.
      *Students will qualify to take the certification exam after part II is completed. Book is sold separately.

      QuickBooks Desktop Part II

      Become a QuickBooks Certified User with Hudson County Community College! Part II of a two-part national certification program dives deeper into many of the tools used by bookkeepers, accountants, and financial professionals. Prior knowledge of accounting principles required, and you do not need to have taken part I if you already have experience using QuickBooks. Students will qualify and take the certification exam upon completion of the course. Book is sold separately, but an Exam and practice test voucher is included.
