Preparation for your professional life starts the day you apply to Hudson County Community College (HCCC). From the minute we receive your application, we will work hard to help you succeed so that when you graduate, you are ready to transfer or begin your career. While we place great emphasis on academic excellence at HCCC, we also believe in giving you all the tools you need to succeed personally, socially and professionally as well. We'll get you started, and we'll be there for you every step of the way.
Getting started at HCCC is easy; we've created an enrollment checklist that takes the fear and confusion out of the application process. You'll start by completing a simple application form, which can be done online, in person or via mail. Once accepted, you'll take a standard college placement test. This test is critical, as it helps us match your aptitude to the proper classes so you are in a better position, right from the start, to succeed at HCCC. If your ACT or SAT scores are exceptionally high or if you are a transfer student with previous college-level classes, you may be exempt from this test.
The next step in the application process is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and to explore the financial aid options that may be available to you. Our financial aid counselors will walk you through this process, to ensure you are well aware of and understand every possible financial aid option available to you, including loans, grants, scholarship, work-study programs and more. Financial need should not be a reason to avoid applying to HCCC.
Once you have been accepted, taken the placement test and applied for financial aid, you'll meet with your academic advisor. Together, you'll figure out your career goals, a class schedule that meets your needs and your timeline for graduation. Your advisor will also discuss the many student services available on campus, including:
By the time you walk onto the HCCC campus as a student, you'll be comfortable with the campus and all that HCCC has to offer you. Throughout your first semester, we'll work closely with you to help you "settle in" and make sure you're adjusting to college life. During your time at HCCC, you can avail yourself of our personnel and resources as often – or as little – as you need to. That decision is yours, but know that at HCCC we will be there for you every step of the way to prepare you for a successful career and life – for a world of possibilities
