    Hudson County Community College Offers Classes Specifically Designed for Au Pairs

    Foreign nationals may fulfill course requirements with weekend classes.

    January 29, 2020, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) has partnered with Classroom Au Pair to offer weekend classes that reflect American culture and a variety of interests.

    The U.S. Department of State’s Au Pair Cultural Exchange Program requires au pairs to complete 6 credits at an accredited post-secondary educational institution such as HCCC. This requirement promotes pursuing interests, meeting new people, and experiencing American life. HCCC instructors provide engaging, transformative, interactive and fun learning experiences.

    The Making of Walt Disney World, February 7-9. Cost, $495.
    Students experience the magic, and learn the history and worldwide, cultural influence of the Happiest Place on Earth! Visits to two Walt Disney World theme parks – EPCOT Center and the Magic Kingdom – are included.

    Social Media, Creating Content & Personal Branding, February 21-23 or May 1-3. Cost, $295.
    The class teaches what and how to post across multiple social media platforms with tips and tricks for distinctive messaging; appealing to a target audience; developing profit strategies; graphics and videography; and understanding analytics.

    Event Planning & Management, March 14-15. Cost, $325.
    This deep-dive includes tours of New York City and New Jersey venues. Students learn about event categories and components; getting started; and forming partnerships. Hands-on activities include choosing party themes and color schemes; creating invitations and tablescapes; using social media and word-of-mouth opportunities for promotions; and more.

    Cooking for Au Pairs, March 21-22 or May 2-3. Cost, $345.
    Students will learn the basics of working in a kitchen, including sanitation and meal planning/ preparation, knife skills, and more. Includes a trip to the market and lessons in cooking with Latin flavors, making party food, and progressive Italian meals.

    Exploring Digital Photography and NYC, March 28-29 or May 16-17. Cost, $295.
    Students of any level of photography experience may use a professional camera or their smartphone. Topics include exposure; color balance; composition; shooting macro (close up), landscapes, and stills; portrait and studio lighting; editing; and retouching. A field trip to several New York City landmarks will be used for backdrops. Students are required to pay for PATH train and subway rides.

    Fundamentals of Acting, April 4-5. Cost, $295.
    Improvisation, script analysis, monologues, exercises, and techniques encourage spontaneity and teamwork. Students are required to collaborate and work on scenes both inside and outside of the classroom.

    The Music of NYC, April 25-26. Cost, $345.
    Students will revel in classic American jazz, gospel, blues and hip-hop by visiting the Brooklyn Tabernacle for Grammy-award winning music, The Blue Note Jazz Club and other entertainment sites. The course also includes a tour of Radio City Music Hall, Moment (Museum of Music and Entertainment), Strawberry Fields, Apollo Theater and the subway station where Michael Jackson filmed his “Bad” music video!
