Microcredit

Introduction to Marine Construction

This course aims to provide an understanding of marine construction methods, strategies, and equipment. It covers building and repairing structures on the ocean floor, requiring specialized skills and knowledge of underwater environments.

Topics include various marine construction techniques, dredging, piling, dewatering, subsurface soil conditions, rock excavation, and types of marine structures. The course will also address materials like wood, timber, and reinforced concrete.

Environmental considerations, such as cleanup methods, contaminated soil, and permitting, are integral to the course, emphasizing sustainable practices in marine construction.

Students Learning Outcomes (SLO)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop familiarity with various marine construction methods, strategies, equipment, and machinery used in different construction activities.
  • Understand the design principles and techniques involved in planning marine construction activities.
  • Apply environmental policies and procedures.
  • Identify hazards associated with marine construction.

Class material and will help to achieve the above-listed objectives.
