Biography

Christopher Cody teaches History. He teaches HIS-105 (US History I), HIS-106 (US History II), HIS-210 (Western Civilizations I), HIS-211 (Western Civilizations II), HIS-220 (World History I), HIS-221 (World History II), And HIS-131 (History of the Islamic World).

Dr. Christopher Cody began working at HCCC in 2019 as an Adjunct Instructor teaching one course on Western Civilization. He became a Temporary Full-Time instructor in 2021, a tenure-track Instructor of History in 2022, and earned the status of Assistant Professor of History in 2026.

Dr. Cody’s teaching philosophy emphasizes student engagement, academic rigor, and a proactive approach to student success.  He received the National Society of Leadership and Success Excellence in Teaching Award in 2021 and, in 2024, both the NISOD Excellence Award and the League for Innovation Excellence Award.  From 2023 to 2025, he served as Chair of HCCC’s shared governance body, the All College Council, where he led initiatives supporting student parents and academic integrity.

He serves as faculty advisor to the HCCC History Club, has presented at regional and national conferences, and serves as Secretary of the New York State Political Science Association.

He earned his B.A. in History from the University of Vermont, his M.A. in World History from Northeastern University, and his Ph.D. in World History from St. John’s University, where his dissertation examined the complex relationship between media and political power in the modern Middle East.
