Dr. El-Achkar joined Hudson County Community College as a full-time Mathematics Instructor in 1992, and was awarded tenure in 1996. He was a recipient of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award in 1997, and promoted to Full Professor of Mathematics at HCCC in 2000. During his affiliation with HCCC, Dr. El-Achkar has taught the entire sequence of Mathematics and Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology courses. He has been the Coordinator of Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology since 1993, keeping the Electronics Engineering Technology and Computer Technology programs up-to-date, planning the curriculum, and staffing and supervising adjunct faculty. As Network Coordinator from 1995 to 2017, he was responsible for managing and providing computer technical support to all labs and faculty offices in the Science Center.
Dr. El-Achkar is actively involved in curricular development, program building, student recruitment, promotion and tenure case-review, and collective bargaining. Prior to joining HCCC, he was a full-time Assistant Professor of Mathematics at New Jersey City University, and Lecturer of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering at Polytechnic University of New York.
