HCCC Storytelling Class Elevates Communication Skills

Students will learn how to build their professional profiles with powerful techniques.

 

August 16, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – Although storytelling is not a skill generally taught in business courses, it can be a very valuable communication tool. Good storytelling techniques can help professionals connect with an audience, gain credibility, persuade others, enhance their brands, and energize a message. Anecdotes help people experience information, not just consume it. Whether one is building a startup, pitching a project, making a presentation, or speaking on a conference stage, storytelling elevates communication skills.

The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Department of Community Education will offer a non-credit, two-session Storytelling class on Thursday, September 20 and 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuition is $110 per person. Classes will be held in the College’s Gabert Library, located at 71 Sip Ave., Jersey City.

Students will learn to identify their personal style; develop storytelling techniques for presentations; avoid roadblocks to good communication; positively impact the visual, verbal and vocal components of communication; communicate with more diplomacy, tact, and credibility; apply and refine a story structure; choose the right words and emotional tone for every business interaction; and develop a personal approach to connecting with others.
