Hudson County Community College to Help Prospective Students in Completing the 2017-2018 FAFSA

October 18, 2016

October 18, 2016, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Office of Student Financial Assistance has scheduled four, free workshops over the next few months to assist prospective students in completing the 2017-2018 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The sessions will take place: Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the Culinary Conference Center at 161 Newkirk Street, Jersey City; Tuesday, November 15, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the HCCC North Hudson Campus, 4800 Kennedy Blvd. in Union City; Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the HCCC North Hudson Campus, 4800 Kennedy Blvd. in Union City; and Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Culinary Conference Center at 161 Newkirk Street, Jersey City.

The workshops will begin with presentations and information on grants, scholarships, and loans, and answers to questions about how HCCC will help students graduate debt free. Then, the College’s Financial Aid experts will help future HCCC students set up their Federal Student Aid ID and assist them with completing the FAFSA on the computers at the College.

“In today’s world everyone needs a post-secondary education,” said HCCC President Glen Gabert, Ph.D. “Hudson County Community College offers options that provide big returns on investments in the form of bigger salaries and better careers for those who earn associate degrees as well as those who are going to go on to attain bachelor’s degrees or higher.”

According to a 2015 report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, 46% of all students who completed a four-year degree had been enrolled at a two-year college at some point in the past ten years.

“It just makes sense. By beginning at HCCC and then going onto a four-year college or university, our students save tens of thousands of dollars in tuition,” Dr. Gabert stated, calling HCCC one of the best educational values anywhere.

Those attending the HCCC FAFSA completion workshops are reminded to bring basic personal information with them, including: social security number, parents’ social security numbers (if a dependent); driver’s license; Alien Registration number (if not a U.S. citizen); 2015 Federal tax information (IRS 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) for oneself, spouse (if married) and parents (if dependent) – IRS W-2 information, records of untaxed income (if applicable) such as child support received, interest income, veterans’ non-education benefits for oneself and one’s parents if a dependent; information on cash, savings and checking account balances, investments (including stocks and bonds and real estate but not the home in which one lives) business assets for one self and one’s parents (if dependent).
