Deliana Acosta is a Bilingual Licensed Social Worker in New Jersey. She received her
Masters in Social Work at Rutgers University. She has experience working with children,
adolescents, and adults struggling with mental health diagnoses such as depression,
anxiety, and trauma. Deliana is bicultural and can relate to clients who are first-generation
and come from multigenerational backgrounds. Deliana is the co-chair of the JED Team
and a member of PACEDI. She advises the Active Minds Chapter and Latin Society clubs
at HCCC. Deliana is a certified trainer in Mental Health First Aid and Question, Persuade
and Refer (QPR). Deliana facilities a women's support group called La Hermanidad/The
Sisterhood with Diana Galvez that was created to empower women within higher education
through storytelling. It is a safe space where women, and those who identify as women
are encouraged to share, reflect, educate, and start to heal through their experiences.
Her approach to mental health has established a working relationship through a strength-based
perspective. She has always encouraged people to be the best they can be, with the
understanding that everyone moves at their own pace. She loves incorporating mindfulness
into her practice with clients as being present is essential to the therapeutic process.
She is passionate about spreading awareness regarding mental health and breaking the
mental health stigma within the marginalized community. She advocates ending the stigma
by educating individuals, so they don't associate wanting to speak to a licensed professional
with shame.
