March 26, 2020, Jersey City, NJ – As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread at alarming rates across New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy issued Executive Order 109 (https://nj.gov/infobank/eo/056murphy/pdf/EO-109.pdf) on Monday, March 23, 2020. In that directive, the Governor called for businesses and non-hospital sites (including institutions of higher education) to contribute personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilators, and respirators to local Offices of Emergency Management (OEMs).
Hudson County Community College’s Division of Nursing and Health Sciences responded to the directive by donating all of its PPE and health care supplies to the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The HCCC donation included 300 isolation gowns, 45 boxes of gloves, 175 face masks, and 60 much-needed N95 masks.
“During this crisis, we must all work together to protect our community, especially health care professionals working courageously on the frontline, conducting testing, and caring for those who are the victims of novel coronavirus,” said HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber. We hope that in some small way our donation will help flatten the curve of the virus. We are all in this together.”
