Hudson County Community College Extends Moratorium on Tuition and Fee Increases for Second Consecutive Year

April 1, 2021, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Trustees have voted unanimously to freeze the costs of tuition and fees for the second consecutive year.
HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber said the Board voted to maintain the current level of tuition and fees with no increases continuing throughout the 2021-22 academic year. The extension will include this year’s Summer II and Fall semester classes, as well as the 2022 Winter, Spring, and Summer I sessions.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has been physically, emotionally, and financially devastating for our students and our community,” Dr. Reber said. “This is the right thing to do in spite of the financial constraints of the pandemic on our College and all higher education institutions.”
The tuition rate for in-county residents will remain at $149 per credit, the out-of-county rate at $298 per credit, and the out-of-state and international rate at $440 per credit. The $25 per term registration fee, $6.50 per credit student life fee, $25 per credit general service fee, and $18 per credit technology fee will also remain the same.
“In the post-pandemic world, a College education will be even more vital in securing – or transitioning to – quality, stable, well-paying jobs and careers,” Dr. Reber stated. A recent McKinsey Global Institute report predicts that one of every ten U.S. workers will likely be forced to leave their present jobs and take up new occupations because of the pandemic. The most sought-after careers will include health professionals, health aides and technicians, cybersecurity experts, data analysts and managers, and financial advisors.
HCCC offers a vast array of financial assistance programs for students, including HCCC Foundation Scholarships, and federal and state resources including the New Jersey Community College Opportunity Grant program, which provided $3.3 million in funding to over 3,000 HCCC students during the 2020-21 academic year alone. The College also provides students experiencing COVID-related financial hardships with federal stimulus and other funding. To date, the College has disbursed $5,681,556 to 4,620 recipients, or an average of $1,230 awarded to each student recipient.
