HCCC Commencement Keynote Speech

Hudson County Community College Graduate and Jersey City Medical Center Executive Nicole Sardinas to Deliver HCCC Commencement Keynote Speech

 

May 12, 2015, Jersey City, NJ – Nicole Sardinas, DNP(c), MSN, RN, CCRN, the Director of Nursing Education at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health and a 2006 graduate of Hudson County Community College (HCCC), will deliver the keynote address at the HCCC 37th Annual Commencement Ceremonies. The event will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s Prudential Hall in Newark, NJ. Approximately 907 students are expected to graduate.

“We are very happy to welcome Nicole Sardinas back to the College for this special occasion,” said HCCC President Glen Gabert, Ph.D. “She is superbly representative of how far students who begin their higher education at Hudson County Community College can – and do – go.”

After earning her Associate in Science Degree in Nursing at Hudson County Community College in partnership with Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Mrs. Sardinas was awarded her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New Jersey City University in 2008, and her Master of Science in Nursing Practice from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers University) in 2011. She is currently completing a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree with an emphasis on leadership at Rutgers School of Health Related Professions.

Actively involved in nursing practice, development, and preparation for the profession’s future, Mrs. Sardinas focuses on the impact of nursing on the health care continuum. She is a strong proponent of continuing education for nurses, shared governance, and inter-professional collaboration, and currently serves on several local consortiums and practice groups.

As Director of Nursing Education at Jersey City Medical Center - Barnabas Health, she is responsible for nursing practices, continuing education, and managing quality initiatives. Mrs. Sardinas promotes governance across all levels of nursing through mentorship, and collaborates with interdisciplinary leaders to meet quality indicators for American Nurses Credentialing Center, National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey, Leapfrog, DNV Healthcare, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Department of Health. She serves as Chair of the Communication track of the Nursing Strategic Plan, and also chairs the Magnet Champion Council. She previously served as a Staff RN in Cardiac Critical Care at Jersey City Medical Center, Skills Laboratory Instructor at Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Educator - Critical Care at Jersey City Medical Center, and Clinical Instructor - School of Nursing at New Jersey City University.

Extensively involved in the community, Mrs. Sardinas participates in many local events such as health fairs, blood drives and other events that benefit students and those who reside and work in Hudson County. She also teaches Critical Care Nursing and lectures on a wide range of topics.

Mrs. Sardinas is a member of the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and was recognized with the New Jersey City University Award for Nursing Change Agent.
