June 16, 2020, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Department of Continuing Education and Workforce Development virtual Summer Youth & Teen Programs will provide students with opportunities to explore their creativity and polish their academic skills to prepare for college from the safety and comfort of their own homes.
The virtual programming will be conducted live by experienced instructors during peak hours of the day. Included in the offerings are arts and crafts activities, creative workshops, and College Readiness classes.
Creative Writing Class allows students to choose their project: slam poetry reading, collection of flash fiction, fantasy story, or anything in between. Topics for discussion will include favorite types of literature, how to develop one’s own unique writing style, and how to polish one’s writing. Recommended for ages 9 to 15. Classes are Tuesday through Thursday, July 7 through July 9, 2020, from 9 to 11 a.m. Cost is $60.
2D Mixed Media Workshop explores painting, collage, and printmaking techniques that can be used in every home. Students will then be guided in creating an original work of art using the techniques taught, and will develop new skills to use over and over again. The course is open to students of all levels of experience in art. Recommended for ages 9 to 15. The workshop takes place Tuesday, July 7 and Thursday, July 9, 2020, from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $40.
Digital Photography I and II Classes will help students hone their shutterbug skills using any digital camera, including
DSLR, mirrorless, iPhone or smartphone. Students will learn photography fundamentals;
editing and retouching techniques using free software; and “Home Hacks.” They will
also experiment with light painting and double exposures. Recommended for ages 9 to
15.
Digital Photography I classes will be held Monday through Thursday, July 13 - 16,
2020 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $120.
Digital Photography II classes will be held Monday through Thursday, July 13 - 16,
2020, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $120.
College Readiness – SAT Prep Classes help high school students get a jump-start on achieving high scores on the Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT). Students will learn to use basic problem-solving techniques to
strengthen their academic abilities and test-taking skills while avoiding careless
mistakes. The classes include test samples from actual SAT exams.
SAT Language Arts classes will be held Monday through Thursday, August 3 - 6, and
August 10 - 13, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $240.
SAT Math classes will be held Monday through Thursday, August 3 - 6, and August 10
- 13, 2020, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $240.
