Hudson County Community College Offers Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certificate Program

Program is open to high school graduates and Human Services professionals; classes start remotely in July.

 

June 25, 2020, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will offer a Proficiency Certificate in Addictions Counseling program beginning in July. The program will provide students with the educational requirements needed to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in New Jersey.

The 15-credit CADC program is open to individuals who have earned at least a high school diploma or equivalent; it is also beneficial for human services professionals who wish to supplement their skills. The five Addictions Counseling courses are certified by the Addictions Professional Certification Board, and provide students with competencies in the required CADC domains – Assessment, Counseling, Case Management, Client Education, and Professional Responsibility. Graduates of the CADC program are generally able to find employment in the field, and must successfully complete 3,000 hours of required work-related experience and pass written and oral examinations for certification.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the job outlook for alcohol and drug counseling is projected to increase 22 percent over the next few years. The annual salary for substance abuse counselors in New Jersey ranges from $43,000 to $61,000. The Proficiency Certificate in Addictions Counseling is a “stackable credential” that allows students to leverage their coursework towards a full Associate in Science degree in Human Services Pre-Social Work option in Addictions Counseling.
