August 8, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – There is an increased need for Medical Billing and Coding specialists in Hudson County and throughout the country. These professionals are needed to work in hospitals, medical offices, surgical centers, private medical practices and other healthcare facilities.
To meet this demand, Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will begin offering a new Medical Billing and Coding certificate course this fall.
“Our certificate program will prepare HCCC students for exciting careers in this growing field,” said Dr. Chris Reber, President of HCCC. “After completing our new program, they will be prepared to sit for the national certification exams in Medical Coding and Medical Billing, which will enhance their career and educational opportunities going forward.”
Careers in the medical records and health information technology fields have a growth rate of 13 percent from 2016 through 2026. The median annual salary is $39,180, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Medical Billing and Coding involves the processing of patient insurance and treatment records, coding diagnoses, and insurance payments. Highly skilled Medical Billers and Coders develop a keen understanding of medical insurance, claims, and appeals. The financial success of a healthcare provider largely depends on the knowledge of these professionals.
