Hudson County Community College Offers Certified Nurse Aide Course

August 12, 2019, Jersey City, NJ – Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) are vital to the healthcare system, providing essential patient services such as personal hygiene, grooming, vital-signs recording, and bed making. CNAs work under the supervision of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, and medical doctors in a variety of settings – hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted-living, private long-term care and mental health facilities, educational institutions, substance abuse rehabilitation centers, and more. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the job-growth outlook will remain strong for this in-demand field.
The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development is offering a Certified Nurse Aide noncredit training program. The classes will be held from 5 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, from September 16 through October 28, 2019. The 90-hour program includes 50 hours of classroom study plus 40 hours of on-site training, working with elderly patients in a long-term care facility. Upon completing the course, CNA candidates are eligible to take the skills evaluation and written tests for obtaining the New Jersey CNA license. The cost is $1,325 per person.
To be eligible for the program, students must meet the requirements below:
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Be authorized to work in the U.S. with a valid social security number;
- Take the 9th Grade Proficiency on the TABE Test (HCCC students with a GPA of 2.0 or higher are exempt);
- Submit to taking a criminal background check and fingerprinting prior to certification.
