Dr. Eric Friedman Promoted to HCCC Executive Vice President and Provost

September 19, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) President Dr. Chris Reber announced the promotion of Dr. Eric M. Friedman to the newly created position of Executive Vice President and Provost.

“In this expanded leadership role, Dr. Friedman will serve as second in command, as acting president in my absence, and as the College’s Chief Operating Officer,” Dr. Reber said.  “He will work side-by-side with me leading and supporting all parts of Hudson County Community College.”

Dr. Friedman previously served as the College’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs with oversight for all credit and noncredit programs. His role is now expanded to include supervision and support for the College’s libraries, online learning, and North Hudson Campus.  He is also the Middle States Accreditation Liaison Officer.

Dr. Friedman holds a Bachelor’s degree from University of Denver, a Master’s degree from New York University, a Ph.D. from The New School for Social Research, and a certificate from the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard University.

Prior to joining HCCC in 2007, Dr. Friedman taught at Drew University, Passaic County Community College, The New School for Social Research, and The Art Institute of New York City.  He also held significant managerial positions in the hospitality industry, including New York’s iconic Russian Tea Room.

Dr. Friedman is an active member of the Hudson County Workforce Development Board, New Jersey Business & Industry Association’s Education Committee, and Employer Legislative Committee, and has lobbied in Washington, D.C. on behalf of community college students.  Under his leadership, HCCC was a founding member of the recently formed Hudson County Consortium for Business Growth and Development, which also includes the County of Hudson’s Office of Business Opportunity, the Hudson County Economic Development Corporation, Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, and New Jersey Small Business Development Center at New Jersey City University.

A passionate champion for student success, Dr. Friedman is the recipient of the International Phi Theta Kappa 2015 Distinguished College Administrator Award, the 2014 Rotary Club of Jersey City Community Services Award, and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges 2013 Spirit Award recognizing his transformative work in English as a Second Language education.
