HCCC Course Introduces New Problem-Solving Strategies

Non-credit course improves the ability to effectively solve complex problems.
October 18, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – Design thinking is a brainstorming, solution-based process that helps individuals create innovative solutions by changing their approach.
The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Department of Continuing Education will offer a non-credit, two-session “Design Thinking” course on Monday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. The classes will meet in the College’s Gabert Library at 71 Sip Avenue in Jersey City – across the street from the Journal Square PATH Transportation Center. Tuition is $99.
The design thinking process consists of five steps—empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Students will learn to tap into their capacity for innovation, use unique reasoning techniques, and build ideas to tackle complex issues. Through a progression of inventiveness, evolving classes, short assignments, and readings, students will generate strategies for problem solving, error control, and risk limitations.
“Design thinking is often referred to as ‘a third way of thinking’ or ‘thinking outside the box,’ and it is a valuable professional skill to acquire,” said Dr. Chris Reber, HCCC President.
