December 4, 2023, Jersey City, NJ – Rather than outsourcing labor to other countries, Eastern Millwork, Inc. (EMI) founder and President Andrew Campbell created a pipeline of engineers for his company by partnering with Hudson County Community College (HCCC). The resulting federally registered Holz Technik Dual Education Program has been hailed by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy “as an example of the blueprint for New Jersey’s economic future.”

Mr. Campbell will be presented with the College’s 2023 Distinguished Community Service Award at the HCCC Foundation 26th Annual Holiday Gala on Thursday, December 7, 2023, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City, NJ. Guests will enjoy an evening of scrumptious cuisine prepared by the professional chef-instructors and students of the nationally acclaimed HCCC Culinary Arts Institute (CAI); meet HCCC students, faculty, and staff; learn about HCCC schools and programs; and applaud Mr. Campbell and those who support life-changing opportunities for students.

“Every year, the HCCC Foundation celebrates the people and organizations who advance innovative programs, assist our students in attaining their college educations, and help build a stronger and more prosperous community,” said HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber. “The College partnered with Andrew Campbell and EMI to build a national model for workforce development. We are proud to recognize Andrew at this year’s Holiday Gala.”

Before founding EMI, Andrew Campbell studied interior design at Fashion Institute of Technology. A national leader in custom architectural woodwork manufacturing, EMI uses technological innovation to create high-end designs without sacrificing Old World craftsmanship. EMI’s clients include some of the nation’s most prestigious corporations and locations, such as The New York Times Building, Prada, Lincoln Theater, Madison Square Garden, LG Headquarters, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and Princeton Performing Arts Center, to name a few. He was named Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County’s 2010 Builder of the Year, and – as a founding partner of Force 21 Industrial Education program at High Tech High School – was honored as Hudson County Schools of Technology’s 2014 Corporate Partner of the Year.

In the Holz Technik Dual Education Program, qualified high school graduates are hired by EMI as paid apprentices who split their time between their studies and work. They receive full benefit packages and annual raises. Upon completion of the program, apprentices earn an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Advanced Manufacturing from HCCC, and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Technical Studies from Thomas Edison State University. They complete their studies with no college debt, and have established careers as engineers and skilled craftsmen.

Established in 1997, the Foundation generates financial support for the College’s growth, awards scholarships, provides seed money for new programs and stipends for faculty development, and supports cultural enrichment activities. Since its founding, the Foundation has awarded nearly $4 million in scholarships to over 2,000 students.

The HCCC Foundation was the driving force behind the establishment of the College’s Permanent Art Collection in 2006, which now features more than 1,850 original pieces of fine art by internationally renowned artists. The Collection’s sculptures, paintings, photographs, prints, pottery, ephemera, and mixed media artworks are located throughout all HCCC campus buildings and are utilized for teaching and the enjoyment of the community.
