Hudson County Community College to Hold Festivities Honoring 250 New Graduates

December 13, 2016, Jersey City, NJ – This Thursday evening, December 15th, Hudson County Community College (HCCC) administrators, faculty and staff will gather to celebrate the 250 students who have completed their coursework and will receive their diplomas in May as part of the HCCC Class of 2017. Many of the students’ family members and friends are expected to be in attendance as well.

The reception will be held in the Sixth Floor Atrium of the College’s Library at 71 Sip Avenue in the Journal Square area of Jersey City beginning at 5:00 p.m. Formal remarks by HCCC President Dr. Glen Gabert are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. 

“We are very proud of these students, many of whom work full-time and are the primary providers and caregivers for their families,” said Dr. Gabert, “The College is very pleased to have this opportunity to honor our newest graduates for the determination, commitment and hard work they have exhibited in accomplishing their educational goals.”

The President noted that the College offers a number of programs to support students and assist them in getting over the hurdles they may encounter on the road to their graduation. These include: scheduling classes in day, evening and weekend sessions at both the Journal Square and the North Hudson campuses; having faculty who work to help students succeed in their studies; an award-winning in-class, group and individual tutoring program which is available free of charge; one of the most extensive financial aid and scholarship programs in New Jersey; a comprehensive English as a Second Language program with bilingual classes offered in Math, Sociology, Psychology, Computer Science and College Student Success; a “First Year Experience” program that guides students from the time they apply and all throughout their initial year at HCCC; making computer labs available to students in nearly every College building; and much more.

The HCCC Class of 2016 included nearly 1,200 graduates who received their diplomas last May at New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s Prudential Hall in Newark, NJ. HCCC graduates have been welcomed at Baruch College, Bloomfield College, Caldwell University, City College of New York, Columbia University, Cornell University, CUNY, Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Florida International University, Georgian Court University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Johnson and Wales University, New Jersey City University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, New York University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Phoenix, Purdue University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rutgers University, Smith College, Stanford University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Texas A&M University, University of California at Los Angeles, University of Connecticut/Dentistry, University of Houston, University of Southern California, University of Wisconsin/Law, and William Paterson University, as well as colleges in Canada, Japan, France and the Netherlands.

At Thursday evening’s event, the new HCCC grads will also be sitting for their yearbook portraits.
