December 17, 2019, Jersey City, NJ – Anyone who has put off college to raise a family, work, or manage financial constraints may learn that now is the perfect time to begin – or resume – pursuing their college education.
Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will hold a “Never Too Late” Information Session on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the HCCC Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City, NJ. HCCC Peer Leader Koral Booth, who started her college career later, and who co-founded the College’s “Later in Life” Club, will be joined by other HCCC students who began college at later stages in their lives. The students will provide information and insight based upon their own experiences.
“The diversity of our students both in ethnicity and age is one of our greatest strengths,” stated HCCC President, Dr. Chris Reber. “Those attending this information session will also learn that the support offered by and to our students is incredible, and important to their success.” Slightly more than 50% of HCCC students are 22 to 65-plus years of age.
Ms. Booth is a Liberal Arts-English major who will graduate in May 2020. In Fall 2017, the Jersey City mother of four enrolled at HCCC after being away from the classroom for more than 20 years. Although she planned on just going to class, getting good grades, and going home, she became active in campus life after joining the National Society for Leadership and Success. Today, she is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta, the National English Honor Society, and has been recognized at the College’s annual celebration of Student Excellence and Achievement Awards. In addition to her Peer Leader duties, Ms. Booth participates in a work-study program. She is a Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG) recipient. Her oldest son is also a HCCC student.
Members of the College’s Enrollment Services team will also be on hand at the event to present information about the application and acceptance processes as well as classes, campus activities, and financial assistance, including the free-tuition Community College Opportunity Grant.
