How to Get Started with Handshake

  1. Create Your Employer Account
    Sign up for a free employer account HERE and provide your company information and describe the types of positions you are looking to fill.
  2. Once you have created your account, please make sure to select Hudson County Community College as a connection and you will have access to:

    • Post Job Opportunities
      Once your account is set up, you can start posting job listings. Include comprehensive job descriptions, requirements, and application deadlines to attract qualified candidates.
    • Promote Your Brand
      Use your Handshake profile to showcase your company culture, mission, and values. This will help students understand what makes your organization a great place to work.
    • Engage with Students
      Use Handshake's features to connect directly with students. Schedule information sessions, interviews, or recruitment events to meet potential candidates face-to-face.

Department of Labor Updated Guidelines on Unpaid Internships

As of January 5, 2018, the Department of Labor has updated their guidelines for determining whether an internship can be unpaid. The new guideline focuses on the Primary Beneficiary Test to ensure that the intern receives the primary benefit of the internship experience. It is also critical that interns do not displace the hiring of paid employees to perform functions of the business.

Approval Process

Employer requests are processed by our Career and Transfer Pathways team and we strive to complete approvals within 3–5 business days. If your request has not been processed within two weeks, please log into Handshake and check your notifications for any updates or comments regarding your job posting.
