Introduction to Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC)
A Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC) course prepares individuals to manage and coordinate traffic flow in work zones,
particularly in construction or maintenance areas on highways and roads. This course
is critical for ensuring the safety of both workers and the public by teaching best
practices for traffic control in potentially hazardous environments.
The TCC course is often a requirement for construction managers, road maintenance
personnel, and anyone involved in roadwork or temporary traffic redirection. After
completing the course, participants may receive a certification that qualifies them
to coordinate traffic in work zones.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLO):
Upon successful course completion, students will have:
- Proficiency in setting up safe, compliant work zones using appropriate signage and
control devices.
- Ability to interpret, create, and adapt traffic control plans as per site needs and
safety standards.
- Understanding of OSHA, DOT, and MUTCD guidelines for traffic management in work zones.
- Skills in using flagging techniques to safely direct traffic and manage flow.
- Knowledge of protocols for handling incidents and emergencies within work zones.
- Effective communication with stakeholders and the public to ensure awareness and cooperation.
- Awareness of legal responsibilities and ability to assess and mitigate risks in work
zones.

Schedule and Lecture Topics
- Day 1. Work Zone Setup and Design: Instructions on setting up safe and efficient work zones, including signage, barriers,
and lighting.
- Day 2. Traffic Control Plans (TCPs): How to interpret, design, and implement traffic control plans that comply with regulatory
standards.
- Day 3. Safety Regulations: An overview of federal and state safety guidelines, including OSHA standards, and
how to apply them to work zone management.
- Day 4. Flagging Operations: Training on hand-signaling techniques and using flags and paddles to control vehicle
flow safely.
- Day 5. Incident Management: Procedures for handling emergencies and incidents within work zones, including vehicle
breakdowns or accidents.
- Day 6. Communication Skills: Effective communication with drivers, construction workers, and other stakeholders
to ensure smooth operations.
- Day 7. Liability and Risk Management: Insight into the legal responsibilities associated with managing traffic in work
zones.
- Day 8. Final review of all the course.
Certificate distribution for successful completion of the course
The course will take place on Saturdays and Sundays for 8-day online, with a Certificate
of Completion provided upon completion of the course.
