Basic Italian Course

 

Basic Italian Level I

Online

This course is following the Communicative Approach. Classes will be focused on achieving specific communicative goals, while building grammar skills. The course is structured in order to ensure the concept learned in the beginning are reinforced with each subsequent class, in order to enhance language retention. Homework will be assigned ad the end of each class. Homework completion is strongly advised as it’s proactive to a successful acquisition.

  • Week 1: Introduce yourself, greetings. We will explore also basic grammar concepts such as phonetics, parts of the sentence ( article, nouns, adjectives).
  • Week 2: Describe places, people, or things. Describe the place where you live, you work. The city you live in, your family or friends. (verb to be, and different usage of the same verb)
  • Week 3: Learn to ask and answer basic questions: who? what? where? when? how? how much? Expanding vocabulary and conversational skills in everyday situations.
  • Week 4: Numbers, Times, Dates. Where would you go without knowing them? we got you covered! Part of conversational skills obviously include knowing how to ask prices, time and dates.
  • Week 5: Expanding your communication skills by learning how to use the present tense of regular verbs, and further vocabulary.

Basic Italian Level III

Online

This is an intermediate continuation of our Basic Italian Level II class and continues to follow the communicative approach. You will continue to expand your communication skills in varying situations and improve your overall understanding of the language. The course is structured to ensure the concepts learned in the second level are reinforced with each subsequent class to enhance language retention.

  • Week 1: reuniting with family. Be able to explain family relationships, customs, compare family values in Italy and America (culture) (Expand use of irregular verbs, conoscere, sapere)
  • Week 2: explore your neighborhood (shops, businesses). Compare how different it might be with a typical Italian neighborhood. (use of regular and irregular verbs : cercare, costruire)
  • Week 3: going shopping in an Italian shop. Be able to use measurements, quantities, and typical expressions. (irregular verbs volere, dare, pagare)
  • Week 4: In the office. Be able to interact efficiently in a work setting ( irregular verbs: salire, uscire, rimanere)
  • Week 5: What is your favorite sport? Do you actively participate or just enjoy watching sports? (irregular verbs tenere, cominciare)

Basic Italian Level IV

Online

In this class, the students that already have a knowledge of present tense, future, and past (passato prossimo and imperfetto), will learn how to refine their skills. They will learn more adverbs, connectors, and also the mode condizionale, which will help them express more complex thoughts and opinions.

It is a conversation-based class, as it follows the communicative approach. This means that grammar concepts will be explained in context and in meaningful, relevant and fun-filled classes.

Conversational Italian (Intermediate to Advanced Learners)

Online

This course is designed to cover practical situations of daily life in Italy, along with celebrating Italian traditions and culture.

It is a conversation based course, and grammar will be explained in context, as well as lexicon, and idiomatic expressions.

Course material includes Italian newspapers, literature excerpts, songs, language textbooks, videos, and instructor slides. Presentations from students will also be welcomed, encouraged, but not mandatory.

Participants will receive an email with details on how to access the live course a few days before the start of class.

This course is designed to cover practical situations of daily life in Italy, along with celebrating Italian traditions and culture.

It is a conversation based course, and grammar will be explained in context, as well as lexicon, and idiomatic expressions.

Course material includes Italian newspapers, literature excerpts, songs, language textbooks, videos, and instructor slides. Presentations from students will also be welcomed, encouraged, but not mandatory.
