The Fast Track Patient Care Technician (PCT) program provides training in multiple skills utilized in healthcare. The role of the PCT is taking and recording vital signs, lifting and transferring patients, and responding to patients’ requests. The PCT also draws blood specimens for laboratory testing as well as performs EKG’s (electrocardiograms), preserves privacy and confidentiality under HIPAA, follows infection control guidelines, and performs other clinical tasks under the guidance of a professional nurse. As a PCT, you will provide hands-on assistance to serve the basic needs of patients as well as work alongside other healthcare professionals.
In our PCT program, students will earn four nationally and industry-recognized credentials valued by employers. This program is intended for individuals who wish to enter the healthcare field or current workers who wish to upgrade present skills to enhance employment marketability in an acute care hospital or other specialized patient care setting.
Eligibility Requirements:
After working in the financial industry, I was unexpectedly laid off from the company I worked for after almost 18 years. At 40 years old, I decided to make a radical change and follow my longtime dream of having a career in Healthcare. Samaya worked with One Stop career case manager Yolanda to start my journey in the right direction with the Fast track PCT program.
In four short months not only am I now certified in EKG, phlebotomy and PCT, but I've also built relationships with my classmates, instructors, Samaya and feel like family. We were privileged to have had Instructors that were passionate, highly skilled, and had a willingness to go the extra mile and cared about our development.
"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." - Harriet Tubman
I believe our purpose in life is to help others.
I am grateful to God Almighty for giving me the strength to be among the first set of students to graduate from the PCT program at HCCC. My gratitude goes to the entire staff, professors and all organizing committee members that made sure the program was a success. Also, I appreciate Samaya Yashayeva and Lavern Ploom for their words of encouragement from the first day that I enrolled into this program. It was a wonderful experience studying under your guidance and supervision through the various programs such as CNA, EKG, and Phlebotomy. These programs have positively changed my life in areas such as my standard of living, diverse career options, great communication skills, and better ways of rendering care to patients. You guys hold a special place in my heart and I earnestly respect your concern for my success.
