Advising

At Hudson County Community College (HCCC), we want to make sure you have the information you need to select the right courses and work towards your own personal, academic and career goals. That’s what we do as advisors.

Advising

We’ll help you map out a plan of what courses to take each semester, help you work through the tough semesters and figure out what your next steps are after HCCC.

We can help with:

  • Selecting courses for registration
  • Career and major exploration
  • Problem-solve when you’re having difficulty with courses
  • Create a plan for graduation
  • Navigating post-graduation options

Do I have an assigned Academic Advisor?

All matriculated (students with a declared major at HCCC) are assigned an academic advisor. You’re not in this alone, and we want to make sure you always have a support team to back you up.

A few weeks into your first semester, you’ll receive an academic advisor who will be your go-to person until graduation. You may also have a faculty advisor assigned to you to answer any major-specific questions you may have.

Every student’s story is different

Here’s what to expect as…

Beginning your first semester at college can be stressful. We are here to start you on your journey and help you along the way. Your assigned advisor will be available for one-on-one meetings to assist with any questions/concerns you may have as well as plan out current and future semesters. Click here to see our team.

As a parent, while it is important to be a strong support system, please keep in mind that we do have to adhere to FERPA regulations when discussing a student's academic records. Generally, all academic information can only be given to the student unless they sign off on a FERPA release form. While this may feel frustrating, keep in mind this is part of helping the student gain autonomy and independence.

Many of our incoming students already have credits from another institution. If you are planning to transfer into HCCC from another school, you will need to submit your official transcripts which will be evaluated by our Transcript Evaluator. There is a 30-credit limit on the amount of credits that can be transferred in, and your credits will be evaluated in regard to the major you choose when you fill out your HCCC application.
