The mission of the Hudson County Community College Office of Cultural Affairs is to provide supplementary programs to stimulate awareness of the arts and foster creativity.
We strive to complement the efforts of HCCC with cultural events, community programs, and educational initiatives. Our goal is to transcend the understanding of visual and performing arts by closing the distance between the experience of art and everyday life in the community we serve.
In 2015, the College’s President, in consultation with the Board of Trustees, established a Cultural Affairs Task Force comprising involved members of the community, as well as HCCC Trustees, Foundation Board Directors, educators and scholars.
The result is a full calendar of arts programs and events each semester, free of cost, and are held on the College’s Journal Square and North Hudson campuses. Please see below to view this season's offerings.
The Office of Cultural Affairs celebrates diversity year-round with a variety of educational programs throughout each semester. Past programs include New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s presentation of classic Bollywood music, Indie Female Filmmakers Screenings, and interview with Tamika Palmer, mother of Breonna Taylor.
Programs are hosted on the 6th floor of the Gabert Library, conveniently located across from the Journal Square transportation hub. All programs are free and open to the public.
At its October 2013 meeting, the Hudson County Community College Board of Trustees affirmed resolutions to accept a historic gift of more than 400 works of art from the personal collection of Benjamin J. Dineen III and Dennis C. Hull.
The Board also voted to name the gallery space in the college’s Gabert Library building in honor of the couple.
For the 10th anniversary of the North Hudson Campus, the Art Concourse at North Hudson opened to serve as a cultural destination for the Hudson County community under direction of Executive Director Joseph Caniglia and Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Cultural Affairs, Michelle Vitale.
The exhibition space is featured on the third floor of the North Hudson Campus and exhibits works by students, faculty, and regional artists. Celebrating its second anniversary in April of 2024, the concourse has hosted nationally and internationally celebrated artists EunYoung Choi, Wes Sherman, and poet Frank May.
All gallery visits and program participation require an RSVP to mvitaleFREEHUDSONCOUNTYCOMMUNITYCOLLEGE. Gallery visits are by appointment only with hours between 11 A.M. to 4 P.M., Tuesday through Friday.
