Summer NJ State Tuition Aid Grants (TAG)


Helping You Stay on Track with Summer Financial Aid

New Jersey residents who received a Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) during the academic year may be eligible for Summer TAG, a state-funded tuition assistance program designed to help students enroll in summer courses and continue progressing toward their degree. 

Eligibility Requirements 

To qualify for Summer TAG, students must:

  • Be a New Jersey resident.
  • Have received a TAG award during the academic year.
  • Meet the eligibility requirements set by the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA).
  • Be enrolled in at least six (6) credits during the summer term.

How to Apply

  • Automatic Consideration – Students with a valid FAFSA on file for the academic year are automatically considered for Summer TAG.
  • No Separate Application Needed – Additional Pell Grant does not require a separate application.
  • Confirm Enrollment – Eligible students should verify their summer course enrollment with the Financial Aid Office.
     

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Summer TAG Eligibility

  1. A student attended Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 and received TAG. In the Fall, she was a Math major, and in the Spring, she changed to an English major. She is taking 6 credits in Summer 2025, and the courses apply to her English major.
     Yes, she qualifies for Summer TAG.
  2. A student attended Fall 2024, received TAG, but did not enroll in Spring 2025. He is taking 6 credits in Summer 2025 that count toward his English major.
    ✔ Yes, he qualifies for Summer TAG.
  3. A student was a Social Science major in Fall 2024 and received TAG but did not enroll in Spring 2025. He returned in Summer 2025 as a Nursing major, taking 6 credits that apply to his degree.
    ✔ Yes, he qualifies for Summer TAG. As long as the student was enrolled in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025, received TAG during that time, and is taking courses that count toward degree completion, they are eligible.
  4. A student received TAG in Fall 2024 as a Social Science major, in Spring 2025 as a Humanities major, and in Summer 2025 switched to a Science major while enrolling in 6 credits that apply to the new major.
    ✔ Yes, she qualifies for Summer TAG.
  5. A student attended Fall 2024, received TAG, and reached the maximum TAG payments by the end of the term. He continued enrollment in Spring 2025 and is taking summer classes to graduate early.
    ✔ Yes, he qualifies for Summer TAG. Even if a student reaches their maximum TAG payments, Summer TAG has a separate award counter, allowing additional funding.

 A student is not enrolled as a matriculated (degree-seeking) student at their institution.

 A student attended a county college in Fall 2024 and then transferred to a 4-year institution in Spring 2025. The student received TAG at both institutions and now wants to take summer classes at the county college.

  • This student is not eligible for Summer TAG at the county college unless approved by the 4-year school through a consortium agreement.
  • The student would be eligible for Summer TAG if they took summer classes at their current 4-year school.

 A student reached the maximum TAG payments by the end of Spring 2024 (AY 23-24), attended a New Jersey institution in AY 2024-25 but did not receive TAG, and now wants to enroll in summer courses.

  • This student is not eligible for Summer TAG because they did not receive a TAG payment during AY 24-25.

 A student received TAG in both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 and wants to take a real estate course in Summer 2025 that does not count toward their degree.

  • This student is not eligible for Summer TAG. Only courses that apply toward degree completion (required or elective credits) are covered.
