THIS CLASS TAKES PLACE ON TWO CONSECUTIVE SATURDAYS! Please note the requirement above. You will be required to purchase food items that you will cook. Cost of items will vary but should not exceed $50 USD total for all four of the cooking modules.
An in depth and interactive venture into the science and methodology of cooking at home. The class is a combination of Chef led live Zoom classes ( 2 Saturdays , approximately 4 hours each class ) where students and the chef will cook a recipe together, and independent projects. The independent projects will include academic work as well as guided recipes you will cook on your own. A shopping list for each Zoom class and at home recipe will be provided and students will be required to obtain these items before each class.
FOR VEGETARIANS: Not a problem! You will be able to substitute meat for other items such as portobello mushroom, etc.
IF YOU HAVE ANY FOOD ALLERGIES: Not a problem! There are ways to substitute ingredients, but they are a bit more difficult and require some special ingredients. If you don’t mind doing the substitutions and extra work it shouldn’t be a problem.
All assignments must be completed in order to receive your course completion certificate. Course completion certificates will be uploaded to Google Classroom in a shared folder after class has concluded, and you will be able to download your certificate. If you have a deadline and need your certificate earlier, please indicate it during the registration process (there is a question). You may receive your certificate as early as 1 week after class has started, as long as you complete all assignments successfully and it is confirmed by the instructor.
Attendance during the scheduled Zoom sessions is mandatory and we will be taking attendance! If you do not attend these, you will not receive a course completion certificate. Other than the Zoom sessions, the class is self-paced and you will be free to work on your assignments whenever you want. You will have 4 weeks to complete all course requirements.
This class will consist of cooking, readings and assignments posted on Google Classroom and TWO scheduled Zoom sessions (Zoom is a video conference app). You will only have TWO zoom meetings on two consecutive Saturdays and will then work independently on your assignments for the remaining 4 weeks. Both zoom and Google Classroom are free platforms and easy to use. You will be invited to join Google Classroom about a week before class starts. Check your junk mailbox, as invitations to join Google Classroom sometimes end up there. Please make sure you register for the course with a valid email address, since this is where you will receive an invitation notification to join Google Classroom. Your email has to be Google Classroom compatible, so it’s best if you use gmail, hotmail or yahoo. If you do not receive a notification before class starts, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to contact us.
There is NO pre-assignment for the online class. You might however be asked by your instructor, a few days in advance, to prepare a little bit for the first zoom meeting. The course syllabus, all readings and assignments will be posted on Google Classroom before the first zoom meeting.
You will attend the Zoom sessions by going to zoom.us and clicking “Join Meeting.” You will then enter a meeting ID number that will be provided to you. You can join via a computer, iPad or phone! We would prefer to see you, but if you do not have a camera on your computer, that’s ok. You can join via audio only. There is also an option to call in from your phone, in case your computer audio has any trouble connecting.
