Water Main Installation

This course is designed to prepare students for inspecting water main installations in New York and New Jersey. By completing this course, students will acquire comprehensive knowledge of various water main fittings and learn how to calculate lay lengths and the weight of fittings for contractor payments. They will gain skills in overseeing the installation of fire hydrants and their associated fittings. Additionally, students will understand how to collect water samples for testing at DEP NYC laboratories. The course also covers important aspects of soil cover, including the required depth of soil over different sizes of water main pipes.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and methods used in the installation of water main pipes and fittings.
  • Identify potential issues during the installation process and propose effective mitigation measures.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure the suitability and integrity of all connections.
  • Assess the quality of water through proper testing procedures.
  • Understand the responsibilities of an inspector in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality and safe water supply.
