Program Overview
The Hudson County Community College Criminal Justice Program offers an Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Students have the option of majoring in Criminal Justice in-person at the Journal Square Campus in Jersey City as well as the North Hudson Campus in Union City. The Criminal Justice Program is also offered fully online. The program is designed for students who have an interest in the many facets of the Criminal Justice System. The curriculum emphasizes a comprehensive program in Policing, the Courts, and Corrections. The area of Criminal Justice is an exciting and continually growing and changing field which encompasses law enforcement and investigations, the courts and administrative services, corrections, attorneys and policy makers. A degree in Criminal Justice will introduce students to the many issues regarding crime, criminals, and the different ways society deals with the problems.
Program Benefits
The Associate in Science in Criminal Justice is designed for students who wish to
continue their education in the field by transferring to a Criminal Justice program
at a four-year college or university. Students can seamlessly transfer their degree
to Rutgers University-Newark, St. Peters University, New Jersey City University, and
Kean University. Students have also transferred to other colleges to pursue their
Criminal Justice Degrees such as John Jay School of Criminal Justice, Montclair State
University and Stockton University to name a few.

Description
The Criminal Justice Associate in Science degree is for the student who intends to transfer to a four-year college or university to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. The field of criminal justice encompasses law enforcement, investigations, court and administrative services, corrections, private security and juvenile justice. Each area requires individuals who can speak and write well and who can work well with colleagues and the community. The individuals need to be skilled in management, investigative techniques, analysis of data and critical thinking, and methods and theories of social science. Students who choose this program will develop these abilities and will be prepared for successful careers in a variety of positions in federal, state and local law enforcement agencies as police, corrections, court officers, security officers, or a number of administrative positions.
