The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) campus is located only 17 minutes from New York City, allowing easy access to the heart of the Theatre District, where students see plays, musicals, and dance/theatre, on Broadway and Off-Broadway, and go on field trips to the Tony Award-winning Drama Book Shop, and the Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.
Our classes are taught by an award-winning faculty, who also work professionally in the field, while Guest Artists are additionally brought in from New York to conduct workshops. And each semester ends with a Theatre Festival, which showcases scenes, monologues, and songs presented in our state-of-the-art Studio Theatre Classroom.
HCCC also provides one paid internship annually at a partnering professional theatre company.
The theatre arts program at HCCC truly transformed me as an actor, student, and person. I was even hired for a paid theatre internship! Professor Gallo’s teaching has better prepared me for a future in my career.
Students completing the A.A. Theatre Arts Option will have fulfilled the necessary requirements to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year institution. Recent graduates have transferred from HCCC to Montclair State University, NJCU, Rutgers-Newark, Kean University, Columbia University, Ramapo College, NYU, and the Disney Performing Arts program, among others.
December 2020
HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber and his guests – Assistant Professor Joseph Gallo,
and student/playwright Rossella Lopez – put the spotlight on the College’s exciting
Theatre Arts program in this episode of "Out of the Box."
