A four- year degree is needed to secure a solid job in accounting/finance as well as to sit for the CPA exam. HCCC’s program is designed to give you the first two years of a four-year accounting degree The degree will also provide a solid background for junior-level entry into the accounting workplace.
The two-year transfer-oriented A.S. in Accounting Program provides the first step towards professional licensure and certification in both public and private sector accounting. The program is designed for students seeking a four-year Accounting degree that meets eligibility requirements for the CPA or CMA exam. The degree also provides a solid background for junior-level entry into the accounting workplace. This curriculum includes training in computer-based accounting software and systems current in the accounting profession.

The majority of our students transfer to neighboring colleges, in particular Rutgers, to earn their Baccalaureate degree in accounting. Articulation agreements exist with these colleges and several of them have on-site local advisors ensuring that our student do not lose credits when they transfer.
A career in accounting will provide an opportunity to specialize in different areas. Some areas you can specialize in include Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Tax Accounting, Accounting Information systems, Internal Auditing, External Auditing, Management consulting as well Government and Not for profit Accounting. In addition you could end up working for the FBI, IRS, or SEC as these Government agencies hire many accountants.
Regardless of how the economy is doing, there is a need for accountants. For those continuing their education, opportunities exist in areas such as staff accountant and auditor at accounting firms as well as many businesses. For those not continuing, opportunities exist for bookkeeping, accounts payable clerk, accounts receivable clerk, and payroll clerk.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median pay for accountants is $71,550 but in the New York area it is $98,650. The median pay for Bookkeeping and accounting clerks is $41,230 but the median pay in the New York area, it is $47,220.
Our accounting courses are accepted by neighboring four-year colleges such as Rutgers’s University, St. Peter’s University, and New Jersey City University. Also we have numerous articulation agreements with other colleges.
