About This Class

The role and function of the pharmacy technician is an integral part of pharmacy practice today. The pharmacy technician student will identify the steps necessary to accurately fill prescriptions from start to finish under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. The student will also receive instruction on obtaining correct patient information, reading, and understanding a prescription, performing compounding tasks and calculations used to fill prescriptions. Other subjects that will be covered include basic anatomy and physiology, terminology, fraud/abuse, and drug classifications. The course will also assist in preparing the student to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam.

Preparation 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  
  • U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or Work Authorization Visa with valid social security number 
  • 9th Grade Proficiency on the TABE Test, students currently enrolled in HCCC are exempt (G.P.A 2.0) 
  • Must be at least 18 years old 
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent  
  • Submission of a criminal background check and fingerprinting prior to certification 
  • Available to start working upon program completion
